    • Bats

Bats have the distinction of being the only true flying mammal. In our region, the two most common bats to find their way to our properties are the big brown bat and the little brown bat. Bats play critical ecological roles as important predators of insects and help to pollinate crops, trees, and plants.

Bats regularly find their way to our properties because our yards offer them a safe place to roost and hunt for their insect prey. Small openings in your home’s exterior provide them with entrance and exit points, and its wall voids, chimneys, and attics provide roosting sites. Out in nature, bats are helpful, but they pose significant dangers in our homes. Bats spread diseases, including rabies, contaminate our homes with feces, and cause structural damage.

The following tips will help you keep bats out of your home:

      • Up-to-date prevention work.
      • Use bright exterior lights to deter bats.
      • Repair damage to your home’s roofline.

    • Birds

Birds are animals that have wings, lay eggs, have bodies covered in feathers, have two legs, and have a beak. While most birds don't cause people problems, several types of birds become “pests” when they find their way to our properties. Pest birds like starlings, pigeons, and sparrows do things like cause structural damage, spread disease, and damage gardens and lawns.

Pest birds have learned to thrive in both urban and rural areas. They take advantage of the food and other necessities people provide them. Some of a pest bird’s favorite foraging sites include gardens, fruit trees, dumpsters, trash cans, and bird feeders. Pest birds can become a real problem around indoor and outdoor eating areas as well. Our buildings and yards also offer these birds plenty of roosting and nesting sites and easy access to water.

Help stop birds from becoming a problem on your property with these simple tips:

      • Cut tree branches and shrubbery away from your home’s exterior.
      • Bird feeders need to be moved 20-30 ft away from home.
      • Make sure all trash bags are placed inside trash containers.
      • Eliminate standing water from your property.

    • Groundhogs

Groundhogs are large rodents that are problematic for Holt homeowners when they find their way to our yards and gardens. These animals have stocky, robust bodies and long curved claws that help them to dig through the dirt to create their tunnels and burrows. Because they are herbivores, things on our properties, like our grassy lawns, berry bushes, and gardens, offer reliable food sources.

Groundhogs are more damaging to property than to people. Their digging and tunneling behaviors cause damage to our yards, buried wires and pipes, and building foundations. Their sharp, chisel-like front incisors allow them to gnaw on and damage plants, crops, and trees. When our properties provide groundhogs with food and shelter, getting them to leave can be difficult.

Here are our top groundhog prevention tips:

      • Remove piles of brush, wood, and tree stumps from your yard that groundhogs can burrow under.
      • Build a fence around vegetable gardens that is three feet tall and buried at least two feet into the ground.
      • Keep your property's grass cut short.

    • Raccoons

Raccoons are mammals that are native to North America. Raccoons are omnivores and consume many of the same foods we eat, which is why they are so comfortable around people and our properties. Their most notable features are their fluffy tail ringed in black and grey fur and the black mask of fur covering their eyes.

These wild animals are curious, agile, and have great dexterity. Keeping raccoons away from our outdoor spaces is essential because they are quite destructive. While foraging for food, they tear through your trash, gardens, and lawn. Furthermore, our homes offer raccoons safe areas of shelter. Moving to and from our structures, they can damage screens, trim, roof shingles, and siding. They are also problematic because of their ability to spread diseases, parasites, and bacteria.

Avoid issues with raccoons on your property using the following tips:

      • Never purposely feed raccoons or other wildlife.
      • Install motion-detecting exterior lights on your garage and home.
      • Up-to-date prevention work.

    • Skunks

Skunks are wild animals best known for the oily, unpleasant-smelling substance they spray from glands at the base of their tail when in danger or startled. They are easily identified not only by their smell but by their bodies, which are covered in black fur with white markings.

You typically won’t find large populations of skunks on your property, as these animals are primarily solitary and only gather together during mating season. However, dealing with “only” one skunk is problematic and frustrating. The presence of a skunk on your property can make it challenging to let your pets out safely. They also like invading chicken coops to feed on their eggs, and, like other wild animals, they are destructive and spread pathogens and parasites that cause illness in people.

Prevent issues with skunks using our helpful prevention tips:

      • Place trash in containers with locking lids.
      • Regularly harvest fruit and vegetables from garden areas.
      • If you own chickens, collect their eggs daily and make sure their coops are secure.
      • Get rid of bird and wild animal feeders from your property.

    • Rodents

Rodents are mammals and some of the most problematic and destructive pests that find their way to our properties. While more than 2,000 species of rodents live worldwide, only a handful are common household pests. Mice, rats, and squirrels regularly find their way into our Holt homes and businesses. These pests are annoying and dangerous, spreading disease and causing structural damage and damage to our personal property.

Our indoor and outdoor spaces attract the attention of these curious, opportunistic creatures. Our properties offer them easy access to food, outdoor harborage spots, temperature-controlled indoor nesting sites, and water sources. Once rodents in Michigan discover that their needs can be met around your property, they will make themselves comfortable, and you won't be able to easily dissuade them.

In conjunction with regular pest control, implement the following tips to keep rodents out of your home:

      • Use caulk or steel mesh to seal gaps in your home’s foundation and exterior walls.
      • Seal gaps around wires and cables entering your home.
      • Up-to-date prevention work.
      • Remove yard debris that can provide them with harborage sites near your house.

    • Do you offer free inspections?
At Boogeyman Wildlife Control, we understand that the inspection is the most important part of the wildlife control process. Without it, we are flying blind and may not treat the areas of your home that need treatment. Because of that, we offer thorough inspections that are free to everyone within 35 miles of us. If your home is more than 35 miles away, we can still provide an inspection, but there will be a fee assessed due to the travel distance.
    • Are your services guaranteed?
We offer warranties for certain services if applicable. Our bat control service includes a warranty if applicable. Our exclusion work also includes a warranty if applicable. Since our exclusion work is what seals the entry points that wildlife use to get into your house, this is one of the most important aspects of our wildlife control service. We stand behind our work.
